EXP3: Final Submission 1

Inspiration:
My school was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's idea of organic architecture, and so the final submission was influenced heavily by the surrounding Lumion environment inspired by the Jiuzhaigou Valley.

Having thought about Chinese origins and being set in an environment inspired by a Chinese valley, the original section plan for the school was inspired by the Chinese character/symbol for the word "school" or "to learn": å¦, as can be seen in one of my earlier screenshots.

The layout of the school was then developed and altered from the original symbol shape by extending section into crosses, as inspired by the perspective work done in tutorials. From there, it was a matter of coordinating the school with the environment in accordance with 'organic architecture'. However, the original placement of the rooms has remained the same:

Textures Used:

Grow 1 (light texture): This texture was implemented into a majority of the front facade and the bottom of the school (particularly on the lift) to make a direct connection between the school and the surrounding nature. This is important to 'mirroring the beauty and complexity of nature', as was my goal. I also think it compliments the wood texture, which was itself used due its traditional connection to Chinese Architecture and to show the 'respect for natural materials' in organic architecture.

Grow 2 (light texture): I wanted to use a light texture for the floor of the staff meeting space and to extend the 'grow' motif to the entrance of the school so as to 'force its way outside' and 'grow as Nature grows, from the inside out'.

Linear 1 (dark texture): To contrast the light 'grow 1' texture while also providing balance on the front facade, a dark linear texture was provided. It also provides balance to the horizontal aspects of the school. This linear texture matches the slit windows installed at several points on the building to invoke the idea of the slender stalks in indigenous Chinese bamboo forests.

Swell 1 (light texture): To further complement the linear aspects of the school, I used one of my favoured 'swell' textures. I chose to use a 'swell' texture on the front facade of the general staff offices (which are closer to the water) to provide a further connection to the valley's water beneath by invoking the idea of water's natural swelling-and-receding movement.

Rotation 1 (medium texture): Used only for the water wheel and my personal favourite, I wanted to emphasise the continual rotational movement of the wheel. Placing the texture on the sides and each individual pane of the wheel gives it this rotational visual effect. It is hence influenced by the water's movement and is thus 'a reinterpretation of nature's principles', in this case, the continual movement of the water.
